    Information
    The island of Cyprus is known throughout the world as the birthplace of the goddess of love, Aphrodite, but her cult was far from the only one. At our meeting, we talked about the fact that there were sanctuaries and cults dedicated to other gods in Cyprus: Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, and even Hercules, as well as other heroes and deities.

    We are discussing with you:
    - How the beliefs of the Greek Cypriots differed from the “standard” Greek religion that we are accustomed to, which we have known from textbooks and films since childhood;
    - What myths and legends did the Greeks have in Cyprus;
    - Where are the temples of the Greek gods and heroes in Cyprus;
    - How to find ancient language sanctuaries yourself. Hint - Old Orthodox churches need help. Many of them were built on the site of ancient language temples.

    We see one such example - a place where the temple of the goddess Hera was converted into a Christian monastery, the ancient language altar has been preserved right within the walls of the modern Orthodox Church.

    And, of course, we again turn to ancient inscriptions - in the Cypriot dialect of ancient Greek, Phoenician, Latin and even ancient Egyptian.

    We are waiting for you on a journey through the shrines of ancient Cyprus!

We will recall the Roman Saturnalia and Lupercalia, medieval celebrations in Germany, Venetian masks, and trace the evolution of carnival in Cyprus.
