Of course, the answer won’t be a simple "yes" or "no." The reality is much more intriguing.

Today, Cyprus is an independent country, though the majority of its population speaks Greek. Greek flags are a common sight, Greek music plays in cafés and cars, and some official holidays actually commemorate events from Greek—not Cypriot—history.

But what about the past? When did Greek first appear on the island? Was Cyprus truly part of the Greek world for thousands of years?
That’s what we’ll explore in our next event.

We’ll discover how the Greeks viewed Cypriots thousands of years ago—and how Cypriots themselves saw their identity. Did they consider themselves Greeks, Cypriots, or something else entirely?

    We'll answer questions like:

    • Were Cypriots allowed to participate in the Olympic Games and Greek religious festivals?

    • Did they have access to famous Greek oracles?

    • Did they fight alongside the Greeks in legendary wars like the Trojan War or the Persian Wars?

We’ll also explore whether ancient Cypriot culture, religion, and language were truly Greek. Were their city-states similar to those of mainland Greece? Did they build their cities following the same principles as other ancient Greek poleis?
