    At our upcoming session, we will explore winemaking in ancient Cyprus. We’ll learn where grapes were grown on the island, how they were harvested, and how they were transformed into alcoholic beverages thousands of years ago.

    We’ll discuss how, where, and how much the ancient Cypriots drank throughout different periods of history. Discover tipsy mythology, ancient Cypriot mosaics depicting drinking scenes, and, of course, the cult of Aphrodite and wine.

    Learn about ancient and modern wine festivals on the island, and we’ll translate the Cypriot phrase ΠΙΝΝΕ ΚΡΑΣΙΝ ΝΑΣΙΗΣ ΖΩΗΝ, often seen during Limassol’s wine celebrations.

    We’ll explore all the main Cypriot grape varieties and learn to identify them by their leaves and berries! Study key Cypriot wines, taste Commandaria, and find out which dishes were traditionally made with wine and which are still popular today.

    We’ll also read ancient texts and inscriptions, compile a list of villages worth visiting, and learn new Greek vocabulary. This lecture is perfect for anyone preparing for exams on Cypriot culture and history.
