Myths and Facts About the Origins of the Population of  Cyprus

    Information

We invite you to a lecture dedicated to the most controversial and fascinating questions of early Cypriot history: who lived on the island in prehistoric times, where the first settlers came from, and how language and culture changed over the centuries.

Were the first Cypriots really dark-skinned? Who has lived on Cyprus longer — Greeks or Jews? And why did the Greek language and culture ultimately become dominant on the island?

Finally, we will discuss whether the Greeks conquered Cyprus by force and bloodshed, imposing their own order, or whether their arrival was largely a peaceful settlement.

We will also talk about what happened to the pre-Greek population of Cyprus and where those very first Cypriots disappeared.
